NTEU Congratulates CBP Officers for Detention of Terror Suspect
CBP Officers perform dangerous and important work every day, a reality underscored by their role in apprehending the suspected terrorist behind the attempted Times Square bombing.
CBP Officers at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York apprehended the suspect, Faisal Shahzad, as he was trying to leave the country on Monday night. Several NTEU members were among the officers involved in the detention.
President Colleen M. Kelley congratulated all the federal law enforcement officers involved in the detention and thanked them. “The quick thinking and action of the CBP Officers prevented a terror suspect from fleeing the United States,” she said. “We are grateful to these New York Officers and all CBP Officers across the country for their work every day.”
Process for Requesting EEO Counseling Improved
CBP employees who believe they have experienced discrimination in the workplace have two new, improved ways to request Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) counseling.
Employees call either call 1-877-MY-EEO-HELP (69-336-4357) or access the group mailbox called “EEO Complaint Filing.” The mailbox will be accessible through www.eeocomplaint
filing-cbp@dhs.gov or EEO Complaint Filing in the global Outlook directory.
Along with being more convenient for employees, these new means will improve how CBP tracks EEO counseling requests. |

President Obama extended his personal thanks and congratulations to the CBP Officers for their actions and coordination with other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. More

Get Sunday Premium Pay
Just weeks after NTEU filed a grievance, CBP has agreed to begin providing Sunday premium pay to part-time employees.
NTEU had filed a grievance on the issue in March after CBP failed to comply with a court ruling invalidating the Office of Personnel Management regulation prohibiting premium Sunday pay for part-time employees.
CBP plans to begin providing premium pay to part-time employees for regularly scheduled Sunday work beginning with pay period 12 (June 6, 2010). As NTEU requested, CBP will provide back pay plus interest to employees who worked previous Sundays but did not receive their entitled premium pay. Settlement discussions are still underway as to a process for resolving any disputes that might arise because of the missed payments.
Getting the Workplace
Information You Need? Tell CBP
How can CBP improve employee access to important workplace information?
Employees will soon have a chance to tell CBP whether there are gaps between what employees need to know to perform their jobs and access to that information. The survey results will note current trends in usage, needs, recommendations and suggested priorities for the future.
This survey is voluntary, confidential and can be completed on the job. NTEU has secured the right to examine the final survey results.
